Solicitor
Margot held a Short Service Commission in the Army on graduating from Exeter University having obtained a degree in joint honours in History, English and Politics. On leaving the Army she qualified as a solicitor in 1992 and initially specialised in contentious litigation at Herbert Mallam Gowers Solicitors of Oxford. She then relocated to London and was appointed a partner in general practice at Davies Brown Solicitors, Wimbledon. In 1996 Margot moved to Piper Smith Watton LLP specialising in residential conveyancing. She joined the Property Department at Ashley Wilson in April 2010
Apart from general property work Margot leads the Enfranchisement Team advising residential tenants and landlords on their rights concerning buying/selling their freehold (Enfranchisment), Lease Extensions and the Right to Manage under the “Leasehold Reform Housing and Urban Development Act 1993 as amended” and also the Right of First Refusal under the “Landlord and Tenant Act 1987”.
Her expertise includes:
- Acting for flat owners in extending/renewing their leases
- Representing flat owners in collectively purchasing their freehold/applying for their Right to Manage
- Acting on behalf of freeholders and management companies on application by their flat owners seeking to Enfranchise
- Residential sales and purchases
- Commercial leases
- Acting for mortgagees
- Service charge disputes
- Applying for retrospective planning consent
Margot lives in London, is a keen tennis player and is learning Bridge. She is a member of the City of Westminster & Holborn Law Society, ALEP and the Association of Women Solicitors.
